1. What is the format for a Vancouver Speed Dating Club event?

When you arrive at your chosen venue, our friendly hosts will register you and get you set up with appetizers and a complimentary drink coupon. It's good to arrive about 30 minutes early, as this will give you the advantage of settling in and chatting with other singles before the event gets underway. Our hosts will give you a brief introduction to the evening, explaining everything you need to know. We'll give you a nametag and your match card, on which you'll keep track of the singles you're interested in.

After registering, we'll do some quick ice-breakers to help you loosen up and get to know one another.

Things get started with the ladies seated and the men rotating from table to table every 5 minutes. After each 5 minute mini-date, it's on to the next single! Our events are divided into two parts with a break in between. This break allows you to relax and reflect for a few minutes, before you get back to meeting other singles.

At the end of the night, you'll turn in your match card, where you've selected the names of the singles you shared a spark with. Vancouver Speed Dating Club's match cards allow you to check whether you were interested in someone for dating or only for friendship. We'll match the results and get back to you with a list of your matches within 24 hours.

2. What time should I arrive at my event?

It's best to arrive 30 minutes before the events start. Arriving a bit early gives you the chance to relax, not to mention the advantage to be one of the first to mingle and get to know people before the real fun starts!

3. Do I have to be in the age range to attend?

The age range is only a guideline, if you are slightly under or above the age range, you are still welcome to attend.

4. How long do the events last?

We know our guests are busy, and so most of our events last about 2 hours. However, many participants take the opportunity to stay and socialize after the event is over. For many of our guests, the speed dating event is just the beginning of the night!

8. What should I talk about at the event?

The most important thing is to relax and be yourself. Ask brief but open-ended questions to get to know the person you're chatting with. Ask them to describe themselves in five words or less, or to describe a favourite vacation. For some more advice, please see our Dating Tips.

9. I can't make an event. Can I send a friend in my place?

11. What happens once the event is over? How soon afterward will I get my matches?

Within 24 hours of the event, we'll email you with a list of your mutual matches and their contact info so that you can get in touch quickly. Once you've got your list, the rest is up to you!

12. What's the difference between a dating match and a friendship match?

Sometimes two people aren't suited for dating one another, but they still make for great friends. That's why Vancouver Speed Dating Club's match cards allow you to indicate whether you're interested in someone for dating or just for friendship.

13. I listed someone as a dating match but only have a friendship match with them. Why?

Our match card allows you to select either dating or friendship when you list someone. You only receive a dating match if both people have selected dating. If one of you selects friendship only, then you'll receive a friendship match. Here is our formula for processing matches:

Dating + Dating = Dating Match

Dating + Friendship = Friendship Match

Friendship + Friendship = Friendship Match

Dating + No = No Match

Friendship + No = No Match

No + No = No Match

14. What information is given to my matches? What is your privacy policy?

When you register, you'll give us the contact information you want passed on to your matches. We will only provide your matches with the information you have authorized. Your registration and attendance at our events is confidential. We will not share your name, email, address, phone number, etc., with anyone. For more information, please see our Terms & Conditions.

15. Can I bring a friend?

Bring your friends, we want you relax and have a good time! Make sure that your friend is registered before the event starts.

16. What kind of people go speed dating?

Speed dating is perfect for busy, young professionals, who are looking to meet someone special but are short on time. Our clients are normal people - attractive, vibrant, and intelligent. Exactly who you'd want to meet!

17. Isn't 5 minutes too short a time to get to know someone?

Five minutes is all you need to know whether or not you're interested in someone. First impressions can tell you a lot about your chemistry with someone. Just have fun and go with the flow! What's more, there's lots of time during the break and after the event for you to continue your conversation with the singles you've just met.

18. What are some of the benefits of speed dating over dating websites?

Speed dating allows you to meet singles in a comfortable atmosphere. Unlike dating websites, with speed dating you'll have the chance to date 15 people in one evening! Meeting in person, you'll have the chance to know if you share that "spark" up front. Vancouver Speed Dating Club eliminates many of the headaches associated with dating websites because it's fast, you don't have to sort through miles of personal ads, and there's no risk that the person you're talking to is secretly 85 years old!

19. What is the dress code at your events?

We don't have a formal dress code, but be sure to think about first impressions. You want to present the best version of yourself. Let your clothes say something about who you are!

20. What if I make a bad impression?

The 5 minute mini-date isn't your only opportunity to chat with someone. Use the break and the after-dating time as a second opportunity to chat and get to know people better.

21. Can I get information about someone who did not select me as a match?

Unfortunately, no. We only provide contact information to those who both selected one another. This can be frustrating, but try to keep an open mind. There are a lot of fish in the sea!

22. Why do I have to pay in advance?

Vancouver Speed Dating Club works to ensure equal numbers of men and women at all our events, which means we need to confirm bookings in advance.

23. What happens if the event is sold out?

We wish we could accommodate everyone, but our events are popular and often fill up. Please call us to have your name placed on the waiting list.
